Medical care

A nursing team on site all week, in an infirmary at camp itself.

Camp runs with a nursing team on site, in an infirmary at the camp itself. The medical side is meant to be steady and unobtrusive, close enough that nothing is a crisis and quiet enough that a kid can forget it is there.

Who is on site

Our health director leads the medical team and is at camp for the week. Nurses staff the infirmary, and any facility we rent has to have one before we will book it. Most of our counselors grew up with a bleeding disorder themselves, so the people in the cabin already know what to watch for.

Meet the team

Medication and factor product

Campers bring their own medication and factor product, and it is handed to the nursing team at check-in. The team stores it, logs it, and works from what families put on the application, so tell us about any change between applying and arriving.

Self-infusion

Plenty of campers learn to self-infuse at camp, taught by people who learned the same way. It is never a requirement, and nobody is pushed before they are ready.

If something happens

Bleeds get treated at camp whenever they can be. If a camper needs more than the infirmary can give, the health director decides, and a parent or guardian is called straight away.

Questions about staffing, emergency procedures or the nearest hospital? Our health director will answer any question directly, before you apply.
